The old style inj are designed based on non ethanol fuel. Meaning the compounds used to seal the electrical components work as designed and will last just as long as any other inj. But now we have ethanol additives. It slowly eats away at the sealants inside the injector. Causes misalignment with the internals, corrosion, etc. Heat wouldn't be a big concern because the fuel itself is the coolant. Its the same reason your fuel pump is more likely to go out if you constantly run the car with a low fuel level. Fuel acts as the coolant for your fuel system. Are there limits and extremes that this principal goes out the window, sure. I don't see them failing in the next little while. But they will fail, and they won't last like new style stuff will. Every case is different.
